International day of homeless animals 3. října 2007, Redakce 20th of August 201121th of August 2010 15th of August 2009 16th of August 2008 18th of August 2007 The International day of homeless aminals 2011 On Saturday, 20.8.2011, we are going to memorize a suffering of billions cats and dogs, best human’s friends, who suffer and die, because there isn’t enough loving homes. The reason of this problem are irresponsible owners, who don’t castrate their animals and especially in the Czech republic – towns and villages don’t establish cat shelters and don’t provide castrating program. Please, castrate your own cats, cats feeding by you in the streets too, castrate dogs and prefer the adoption of homeless dogs from a dog shelter to buying from breeders. Please follow animals protectors in their stop cat’s and dog’s overgrowth effort. If you don’t know how to help, please, contact us. The International day of homeless animals in the Czech republic is very important, because we can point out the suffer of animals, irresponsibility of owners and necessary legislative changes about the communal responsibility for establishing dog and cat’s shelter and providing the castrate program. We would like all the associations protecting animals to join this even. If we are united, we will be able to enforce the nessecary change of the §24 par. 1 law of protecting animals, §46 let. c) veterinary law and §13b par. 1 let. d) law of protecting animals to make villages and towns obligatory to establish shelters for animals and provide regulation of homeless animals population by castrating. Actual law says that village or town „can“ do this, but there is no obligatory and the regulation is provided by limitations of food sources – not by castrations! Homeless animals are reproducing in no comfort and in threat time animals reproduce more to balance losings. Due to our healthy problems we canť arrange celebrations in Černošice, but Mr. Vlček in Příbor and Mrs. Hana Fuksová did it. More about their celebrations you can see in following lines.... Finally we would like to ask all the people loving animals to support our effort to establish more new animal shelters and correct providing castrating program. Please, light a candle for all the animals died for human’s irresponsible – overpopulation’s victims – during this special day. Please, remeber by yourself at home. Remember you cat od dog who is not here anymore, remeber cats you saw in the street and couldn’t give them home, remember an old dog you saw in a shelter and now it is too late to adopt him. Put a picture or written name before you, say little prayer and ask for forgiveness. If you are interested in the last year celebration of International day of homeless animals and vigils, please, see pictures from evens in 38 countries and 18 countries, including our republic, in Europe – click on video slideshow or read this article: jak dopadly loňské oslavy Dne a vigilie. The celebration of the International day of homeless animals in Příbor (Václav Vlček) This year we have arranged the sixth celebration of the Day. The celebration’s location was changed. New location was smaller, but more homely and freindly. The opening time was 09:00 – 11:00 a.m. It was sunny weather. First visitors came 15 minutes before opening. As usual visitors came from our town and near neighborhood. We arranged several boards with information about the Day, about the Firts society for the cat’s rights and about our deposit’s work – actual cats number, cats ready for adoption, adopting conditions, information about treated and castrated cats, information about our participation on adopting shows and our petition work. On the special board we placed information about very cruel act, when Mr. Starý ( teacher on the eliminary school in Kutná Hora) fed a snake by alive little kitten during the teraristic club for childern. Visitors had an opinion to read our materials: Cats – care and castration, How to help homeless cats and so on... Visitors liked a lot our black cat Karlík and two kittens Rézinka a Mifík, who participated the celebration, tasted a lot of tidbits and enjoyed so much fondling and caress. We found more and more people are interested in homeless cats problem and people start to understand the nessecary of castrating these cats. People see this problem and provide castration of free-living cats more often. The celebration was succesful and we are looking for next year. ![]() The celebration of the International day of homeless animals in Žikov (Hana Fuksová) On Saturday 20.8.2011 we arranged a meeting to remind the International day of homeless animals. Our deposit Žikov is in the country, so we decided for little meeting with our volunteers and cat’s friends. We started the meeting with the proclamation about cats and dogs owner’s responsibility, preventing uncontrolled overgrowth of cats and dogs, which cause animal’s suffering and about necessity of castrating programe. Unfortunately this program is still provided only by private associations in the country. We emphasized it is neccesary to change this situation. We reminded billions of cats and dogs killed in shelters around the world and lots of cats killed through mass liquidations. We told our visitors about our cats and their life stories. We talked about dead cats – their death was due to human’s disregards and about cats we weren’t able to treat. Then we lighted candles for all the homelles animals. Because all these problems made us sad, we moved to see our cats. At firts we visited our little Amálka. Now she is alright so everybody liked her a lot. All the cats were cuddled and fondled all the day. Cats were happy and our visitors too. Every single cat gets gifts. Our meeting finished about 9.00 p.m. We would like to thank to all our visitors for their money and cat gifts. During all the day we got 2.500,- for our cats. Thank you very much. ![]() This year’s Homeless Animals‘ Day and Vigils 2010 were a success Following is a report on the first official celebration of the International Day of Homeless Animals and Candlelight Vigils in Černošice. The weather was fine and the nearby Holy Virgin Ascension Church opposite to a memorial of WWI victims gave a tremendous atmosphere to the event. The attendance was also quite satisfactory. The organizers and performers have met at 17:00, decorated the booth, spread enlightment leaflets and books there, and installed a bin for collection of money intended for care for abandoned cats in our deposits in Černošice. The event started on 18:00 with music from Maria Daines album; see The visitors were then welcomed and the town councillor opened the event with a speech in which she pointed out its purpose and significance. After a short musical intermezzo the participants were acquainted with the press release, as well as with the following issues: the problem of overpopulation of cats and dogs; the advantages of neutering for the health of animals as well as for the society; the responsibility of owners of pets for consequent neutering and care for them as the most efficient prevention of overpopulation; the lacking responsibility of municipalities for the establishment of asylums and for the support of neutering programs; the proposed amendments to the existing legislation and preference of adoption of animals from asylums to the purchase of pets from pet shops or from animal fanciers. After another piece of music the town councillor has called upon all of us to realize that dogs and cats are our indispensible and irreplaceable friends from the ancient times; that the maturity of a democratic society makes itself present in particular in how well the society is able to care for those who are not able to stand for their rights, which relates not only to children, old or handicapped people, but animals as well; therefore, it is an obligation of all of us to advocate for their right of considerate treatment and leading a decent life. After the councillor’s speech cats from our deposits were presented to the visitors. At about 19:00 hours the candlelight vigils were opened by a flute piece presented by Miss Hašková, followed by a poem and a prayer for animals by Miss Jana Šušlíková. Then candles on the booth were lit and handed out to the participants. A discussion about our home pets including those beyond the „Rainbow Bridge“ followed. Pepina Poislová (age about 1) was the youngest participant and the most fervent activist. The participants have supported our cats with their contributions to the collection bin. We will inform you about utilisation of the money as soon as possible. The event was ended shortly after 20:00 hours. Then the organisers were busy cleaning and removing leaflets and candlelight debris, removing and loading the booth as well as with regular feeding of local abandoned shy cats. We ended up absolutely run down after midnight, but it was worth it! We recommend to all cat and dog associations to initiate their own International Homeless Animals Day and Vigils at their respective towns and cities. By way of conclusion: our big thanks to all who have helped us realize the event, namely: Municipal Services and Community Centre of Černošice for the lending of the booth and tables; Mr. Pavel Blaženín, who arranged for it; Mrs Eva Janíšková for the print of posters; and above all to the performers: Mrs Milada Mašatová; Mrs Daniela Gottelová; Miss Jana Šušlíková; Mrs Hanka Poislová and her cat Pepina; Miss Hašková, the flute player; and Mr Radek Novák for the music and sound. We thank all participants and in particular those who donated money for cats. We thank our colleagues and friends who put the links to the International Homeless Animals Day and Candlelight Vigils In Černošice on their respective websites. For both associations: Alice Oppová and Eva Kopáčová ![]() This year’s celebration of the Homeless Animals’s Day and Vigils in Příbor In the Czech town Příbor, the fifth local celebrations of the International Homeless Animals’s Day and Candlelight Vigils for deceased and mishandled animals were held on 21 Aug 2010. The event was opened at 14:00 hours and ended on 16:30 hours. The guests came not only from Příbor but also from Kopřivnice, Studénka and Nový Jičín. The tableaux with photos were inspected not only by visitors but also by cats from the local deposit, namely by the dapplegrey tomcat Pepík and the black tomcat Karlík. The visitors were also interested in the cat neutering enlightment documents. Many people have inspected the areas of the deposit trying to stroke some kittens. Children were much delighted having the possibility of caring and stroking the kittens. As appears from the discussion among the people present, some of them lack information about the life of the animals in deposits or asylum homes. Also, the animal protection laws and cases of mistreatment of animals as well as people who care for the animals in the street and the necessity of neutering were mentioned in the discussion. The weather was fine, people felt fine and despite of all other events held simultaneously on that day (e.g. goulash afternoon of beekeepers, horseriding, cultural events of firemen...) the attendance was quite good. The guests have leaved with printed matters on neutering to use them in their respective localities. You bet we will meet again next year! ![]() ![]() International Day of Homeless Animals .Dear friends of animals, The nineteenth aniversary of the International Day of Homeless Animals and candlelight vigils for cats and dogs who lost their lives inasmuch there were not enough homes for them and to honour people who devote their lives to prevent suffering and uncontrolled reproduction of abandoned and unwanted animals is coming near. Please join us. If you do not know how, contact us. At the same time we invite you to take place at the first official event we organise on Saturday 21 Aug 2010 from 6:00 p.m. in Černošice (see Invitation Card). We think that it is extremely important to introduce the International Day of Homeless Animals in the Czech Republic inasmuch it will draw attention to the suffering of abandoned cats and dogs; to the irresponsibility of owners and producers of animals; and to the urgent need of a legislative amendment which would introduce responsibility of municipalities for neutering programs regarding abandoned animals. We would like to enforce the following changes: in Section 24 paragraph 1 of the Animal Protection Law; in Section 46 subparagraph c) of the veterinary law; and in section 13b paragraph 1 subparagraph d) of the Animal Protection Law, so that the municipality itself or in co-operation with another municipality or person would establish and operate asylum homes for stray and abandoned animals and regulate populations of abandoned animals by supporting the neutering programs; instead of the existing wording „the municipality may“ and „regulation of population by restricting uncontrolled sources of fodder“ in the said legislation. In view of efficiency, the ban on feeding - without analogy in the advanced world - can be regarded as a contraproductive solution in view of the regulation of abandoned animal populations. It is because the abandoned animals increase their numbers regardless of their well-being; on the contrary, they multiply more at times when their population is endangered in order to cover any losses. The restriction of food only results in a number of weakened individuals and in easier propagation of various diseases among them. So please join us and help the abandoned animals recover their fundamental right for life. Thank you.
