National day of homeless animals and Candlelight vigils

Last week we informed you about National day of homeless animals and Candlelight vigils, held as a memory for animals that lost their lives because there were not enough homes for them; and we also promised to report about what happened during the celebrations.
On Friday already, Ing. Milan Ďurica send us a touching story, his goodbye to Prtík. He would be glad if Prtík stays in memories of all the friends who kept their fingers crossed as a cat full of energy, see “Save private Prtín”, “General Prtín in memoriam”. On Saturday at 16:00 we mentioned the importance of National day of homeless animals and Candlelight vigils in radio Regina. After we held only a small commemoration of all deceased cats; and a tribute of “cat people with big P”. We remembered Mrs. Eva Beranová, our member and author of Cat tales, also Mrs. Ester Krumbachová, outstanding Czech scenographer and costume designer, who wrote Letter to my cats in a charming book of her letters and tales published as „First Ester’s book“.
On Sunday we received photographs from Candlelight vigils held in deposit of our member Mrs. Soňa Jahelková from Láz. And today we received photographs form first public celebrations of the National day of homeless animals and Candlelight vigils, which were organised by our member Mr. Václav Vlček, who has also taken the pictures. He sends a report about the celebrations by post, so we will put it to our websites additionally.

Report about celebrations from Mr. Václav Vlček

National day of homeless animals
Date: 18.8.2007 – Příbor, time: 14:00 – 16:00, weather: cloudy sky, strong wind, Place: private grounds of Mrs. Volná
Number of visitors: 24 persons (acc. To Mrs. Mohaplová 26)
Contribution box: collected in total 200,- CZK!!!
Presentation boards – 6 pieces stored in my place.
Guests: worker of station for handicapped animals, Sedlnice
Others invited: none
Beginning at 14:30 p.m.: welcome and explanation of the National Day origin, Declaration, problems concerning abandoned cats and dogs – necessity of castrations, responsible care for animals we have willingly taken in, dysfunction of current legislation and towns in establishing asylums for lost and abandoned animals, castration program for homeless animals, informing about foundation, mission and objectives of the Society, informing about activities of homeless cats deposit in Příbor, vigils, music (Memory - Cats, Love Memory - Blue Efekt, Gregorian chants, Tibetan mantras, fugues -Cesár Franck) and recitation of Cats Prayer, Dogs Prayer and Rainbow Bridge, finally goodbye.
Greatest interest was for leaflets and particularly presentation boards: maltreated cats and dogs, activities of the Society and deposit in Příbor.
Mrs. Alice Mohaplová, Society volunteer, gave a significant help at preparation of presentation boards, decoration and organisation.
Boards and stands were provided by local joiner Mr. Miroslav Kostelecký for free. Cash from contribution box: payment for candles, box of chocolates for Mrs. Volná and Mohaplová, bottle of vine for joiner, rest for 3 kitten canned food from the deposit. Book Cat Tales was given to station worker from Sedlnice and to Mrs. Volná. There were problems with sending the photos via PC, until today I didn’t manage to send all of them. I considered it easier to organize the National Day than to send the photos. Part of the celebrations wasn’t documented on photos, because Mrs. Mohaplová didn’t feel good in the sun and I cannot divide in half. Yet I think there were enough photos taken.
Date for National Day celebrations: doesn’t fit well to local conditions – end of holidays, vacations, and several other events: “Goulash afternoon”, “Western afternoon with minister Čunek”, Firemen for children, Beekeepers day, concert and tourist march. Positives: for the first time at public in Moravia there was an event aimed at abandoned animals, which gets into public awareness of several people. Also for the first time local public was informed about activities of the Society and deposit in Příbor.
Possible problem: some blockhead may demur to feeding of cats and it may result to town notice prohibiting feeding.
Announcement was sent to municipal office, regional press, invitation leaflets were put 2 weeks in advance on notice board, at the vet, tobacconist, pet shop, self-service shop, library, train and bus station and doctors waiting room.
Conclusion: at 18:10 p.m. I got diarrhoea caused by unsuccessful sending of photos and I didn’t have ready food for kittens.
Remark: next time I would rather go to see the National Day celebrations to a place, where it is better organised to learn from it and avoid mistakes.
I send these few lines by post, so that I can be sure that you receive the letter and I don’t have to run around to get to computer.
Many greetings to all folks and cats – us from the end of republic.
